Kill switch

If the tunnel drops, traffic stops until it is back. No leak, not even for a second.

Why it matters

A VPN reconnects more often than you would think: a wifi handoff, a tunnel in a train, a phone going to sleep. Each reconnect is a gap of a second or two. Without a kill switch your device falls back to the open network during that gap and your real address is exposed. You never see it happen.

How Briva does it

The kill switch is enforced by the VPN engine itself, below the app. When the tunnel is lost, all traffic is blocked until it is re-established. It is on by default and can be turned off in Settings, though we would rather you did not.

The trade

With it on, a dropped tunnel means no internet at all until it reconnects, usually a second or two. That is the correct trade for someone who chose a VPN. It is the reason the setting exists rather than being hard-wired.

Try it.
